Video Analysis Swim Clinic

Team BPC will be hosting a swim clinic at the Burbank YMCA starting at 1 pm on 6 April 2014. This is an excellent opportunity for those feeling they need extra help in the water, or those just wanting to gain precious seconds by improving their stroke technique. The clinic will be broken down as follows:

  • 1 - 3 pm: Video taping and stroke mechanics
  • 3 - 5 pm: Video analysis

We will start the clinic by video taping each athlete to get an initial assessment of their stroke mechanics. We will follow up by working through a progression of drills designed to improve form and feel for the water.

Following the swim session we will get changed and move to one of the classrooms. Here we will review the video footage for each athlete, making recommendations for areas of improvement.

The clinic will be led by Breakthrough Performance Coaches -Susan Sotir,David Sek, andJeffrey Capobianco.

We will need a minimum of 8 participants. If we do not reach this number you will receive a complete refund.

The Sounds of Shearing
George Shearing was one of the most beloved and honored jazz pianists of all time. The composer of Lullaby of Birdland, he performed for three presidents, the Queen of England ( who knighted him in 2007) and all over the world until his death at the age of 91. The vibraphonist Charlie Shoemake, played with one of Shearing's premier quintets and is now leading a west coast based tribute group that brings back that distinctive Shearing Sound that "came to represent the essence of sophisticated hip for countless listeners worldwide who preferred their jazz on the gentle side." (Peter Keepnews, New York Times, February 14, 2011). The Sounds of Shearing is a great treat for all jazz fans and especially for those in the Berkshires, considering that George and his wife Ellie for nearly a decade enjoyed summers in Lee at Brookside Farm on Devon Road right here in Lee. Don't miss this unique presentation of Sir George's music by The Sounds of Shearing at the Berkshire Gateway Jazz Weekend. Special introduction by Ellie Shearing. Advance Tickets - $20.00

The New Black Eagle Jazz Band
If you like the uplifting and soulful music of New Orleans you'll love the sound of the New Black Eagle Jazz Band. Formed in 1971, this seven-piece band has delighted audiences all over the world with their huge and eclectic repertoire of jazz from the 1920's and 30's. The group has a mature mastery of this great American music- from Louis Armstrong and Jelly Roll Morton to early Duke Ellington to Cole Porter; from blues to rags to popular songs of the era. In fact, the New York Times' John Wilson wrote that the Black Eagles are "so far ahead of other traditional bands...there is scarcely any basis for comparison." The band has performed extensively all across North America, and has toured throughout Europe countless times. They have performed in New Orleans, London, Edinburgh, Belfast and Toronto to name a few. In 2011 they opened the Newport Jazz Festival to a packed house. They have been featured in concert with many jazz legends including Doc Cheatham, "Kid" Thomas, Benny Waters, Odetta and Milt Hinton, and with symphony orchestras - the Boston Pops, the Scottish National Orchestra , the Baltimore Symphony to name a few. The band has released over 40 recordings (including the Grammy-nominated "On the River") and videos. Their music has been featured in Ken Burns' documentaries and on NPR Radio.
